The essays in this collection address the question of nationalism in its manifest and latent forms in the Balkan literatures. The shared theme of the essays may be summed up as the investigation of the cultural production as well as reproduction of the ideology of nationhood in terms of the role literature plays in a nations self-fashioning. The contributors from the various Balkan countries as well as experts on Balkan history and culture interrogate the ways in which the national consciousness of the specific country under discussion infiltrates its literary production.

YAZARLAR HAKKINDA
Jale Parla: JALE PARLA is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the Department of Comparative Literature at Istanbul Bilgi University. She has published various articles in Turkish and in English on the Turkish novel and on the questions of world and comparative literature.
Murat Belge: MURAT BELGE is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Istanbul Bilgi University. Academic, translator, satirist, social activist, columnist, Murat Belge published around twenty books on topics as diverse as literary theory, history, memoir, travel, politics, city and culinary culture. His translations into Turkish include Dickens, Faulkner, Joyce, and Berger.
